Larissa Cantwell, nee Overington-Knight, has a Bachelor of Music from the University of Waikato. She is passionate about music and has been immersed in the music world since she was 20 months old.
Larissa started learning violin at 20 months old with Erica Colbert using a tissue box with a ruler attached and a bamboo stick until at the age of 2 when she realised and told her Mum "it doesn't play" when she graduated to a 1/16 violin. Her musicality grew and was very successful in violin competitions.
At the age of 5, Larissa joined her first choir under the instruction of Coryn Knapper. This led her to follow in her grandmother, Alice Knight's, love of singing. Larissa continued on in choirs joining the Les Enfant choir when she was 8 and also the Anglican Cathedral choir when she was 11. Larissa gained the Cathedral choral scholarship in 2005 and remained their scholar for the next 4 years.
Larissa has sung with the Hamilton Civic choir on and off since 2004 and the Tauranga Civic choir as a guest choral singer in 2013.
When Larissa was 6 years old she began piano lessons under the tutelage of Josie Fluhler. Larissa was taught primarily under the Suzuki method while also competing in competitions around the Waikato which she gained many placings in.
